College Tip of the Week #3: The Superscore

SAT Test (ACT Test)

Continuing from last week’s tip regarding standardized testing for college applications, we want to introduce you to the idea of the superscore! Many colleges today, even some of the top tier universities, utilize this system. Superscoring is when colleges take the best score from each section of your SAT/ACT across different test taking dates. For example, if you received a 690 on one math section (and a 740 on the reading) during the October test date and then scored a 730 on the math section (and 680 on the reading) of the November test date, some colleges may superscore your exam. This means that they would include the 730 math score from November and the 740 reading score from October into your superscore, which would be higher than your individual scores on the October and November exams. This is another reason why it is beneficial to take the SAT/ACT exam more than once.
